At a time where consumers were overwhelmed by choice, the ColecoVision stood out by offering experiences that were more in-line with what you would get in the arcades. The console market was oversaturated in the 1980s, and Coleco found competition from Atari, Bally, Emerson, Fairchild, GCE, Magnavox, Mattel, Sears, Tandy, and VTech among others.
